The Mothman Festival
What can I say about the annual Mothman Festival held in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. It’s a strange little town, with a strange little event that happens every September. The festival is in remembrance of the strange events that took place there between November 12, 1966, to December 1967. Strange sightings of a Mothman –like creature were reported by everyday people. Men in Black were seen roaming about and the events came to a screeching halt when then Silver Bridge collapsed on December 15, 1967. It had been a suspension bridge built in 1928 and it wasn’t ever designed to handle all the weight of more modern cars and trucks. Many people were killed and some say the Mothman wasn’t seen after that ever again, but others beg to differ.
The town now commemorates this long ago event with Mothman pancakes, vending, speakers on paranormal topics and hay rides at night through the area where they say Mothman lived and may still live. It’s free and it’s good people watching. We are always there every year and it’s become a meeting place for us and our out of state friends.
