This local legend is so popular that every year on the night of November 21 till morning the next day, people gather at the Reynolds cemetery in Jackson, Michigan, hoping to see the reunion of two lost souls. On the night of November 21, 1883, everyone in the Jacob Crouch home was brutally murdered by being shot in their sleep. Jacob Crouch was 73 years old and his daughter Eunice was nine months pregnant. Along with Jacob and Eunice, a friend by the name of Moses Polley and Eunice’s husband Harry were also killed.
What is so bizarre about these murders is that there doesn’t seem to be any motive behind them. One thing is for certain, who ever the killer was, wanted the whole family and anyone associated with them dead. Two months after the murders, Jacob Crouch’s other daughter, Susan, was found dead. She had apparently been poisoned. A farm hand of Jacob’s was also killed later. The murders were never solved and no one was ever convicted.
Shortly after the murders, people started to report seeing a hazy white, cloud-like substance traveling from Reynolds Cemetery to St. John’s Cemetery five miles down the road. The strange apparition would stop in front of the grave of Jacob Crouch in St. John’s and slowly disappear. It is the ghost of Eunice White visiting her father?
- *All cemeteries should be entered with respect. Leave them like you found them. Don’t liter, if you smoke, pocket your butts and for the love of every god, don’t vandalize anything or so help me, 10,000 demons will strike you down. If the cemetery has hours posted, respect that as well or find out how to get permission to be in there after hours. Many times a simple phone call to the right person will grant access into a cemetery after hours. If you can’t get access, enjoy the cemetery during open hours. We are firm believers that spirits don’t just come out at night. I think it’s just ghost hunters who only come out at night.
