Green Eyes And A Demonic Feeling From Millington Hills
True tale submitted by Todd Wheeler
While growing up in the little and not so special town of Millington in Michigan, I have had the chance to encounter some pretty odd things. It all started in the Millington hills between North Lake road and Sheridan road. I was about seventeen years old and my friend and I decided to go pheasant hunting that day. Towards the end of the day, when the light was diminishing we decided to head back when we started to get a weird feeling of being watched as we neared his house across from these hills. The feeling of being watched grew more tense and to the point of paranoid nervousness.
Later that night, we decided to return to go back to where we felt watched to see if we could spook ourselves. We didn't take it seriously, but it was something to do as we were not partiers or trouble makers by nature. There areas of woods are extremely familiar to us because we had hunted and traveled them a lot since we were children.
Is was around 10 pm as we entered the woods around. We felt watched immediately. I didn't like this feeling at all and it was like nothing we had felt before, but we continued to travel down the long dark path. With the tree tops hovering over the narrow dirt path it was hard to see even in the moonlight. We had flashlights but didn't need them because we knew the paths in great detail. After a while, the feeling didn't subside and we decided to travel further and go to a really old farm house in the middle of the woods, just for kicks. The path to the house divides from the main path and goes down into a ravine of sorts. After 30ft or so from the main trail, we saw a flicker in the shadows in front of us. We kept going until we saw something that was a little off and sent the hairs straight up on our necks.
It was a pair of green eyes that were like nothing we had seen before. They were almond shaped and literally glowing in the dark. We thought that we were seeing things until they eyes blinked at us. At that point we knew we should leave the area but before leaving we wanted to get a better look. My friend turned on his flashlight and behind those green eyes was something that looked like a blend of a huge wolf or bear and something sinister. I do not believe in werewolves, nor do I think this was anything like that, but I do believe it was something demonic and was not happy that our presence was there. We both turned and ran like we could out run it (which I thought was funny). I never knew I could run like that but our feet pounded the ground like hammers.
After a little while we stopped and caught our breath until we heard a really weird noise. It started like a siren but by the time it winded down, you could easily tell it was something howling behind us from were we had been. We started running again and that time we didn't stop till we hit another road. We ended up on a dirt road and stopped to breathe and heard the howling again and not too far away. My friend Ken and I started walking at a fast pace until we reached my cousin's house and hitched a ride. When we were asked what the heck we were doing out there so late we told everyone we had gotten lost but not many believed us though.
Years later we had found out the abandoned gravel pit next to where we explored had been abandoned because they had found Indian burial grounds there. After I had grown up and gotten a little older, a few of my friends had asked about that place and wanted me to take them there. It took a lot of convincing but I caved. We made a trip out there late at night and many of the people there laughed and made jokes about the whole deal. That night, with those friends, would make it my last night out there...ever. We walked the trails again without the aid of a flashlight and only a laser pointer to find the trail with me in the lead. Half way into the trek, I aimed the laser down the trail just to find the laser stopping about 10ft in front of us. There was something like a huge black curtain draped across the path. After a few seconds of debating, we looked again and the black curtain was gone and we reluctantly continued. A few moments passed and we spotted a red light coming from in front of us, but we knew there were no houses or towers in the area. The light was stationary and didn't change in color. We decided that departure was the best answer. While these events were happening, the feeling of utter dread and being watched was surrounding us. Heading back to our vehicles, those intense feelings became worse with every step so we took the next best idea...we ran. We got to our vehicles just to see a big black fog emerge from the trail head and move in our direction, but by that time our vehicles were in gear and dirt was flying.
