(This is a story that I heard about 6 years ago from a friend of my dads, who was young when it happened and then I describe my friends and I's "investigation" of the area.)
Hadley, Michigan is home to the Hadley Hills, which is a huge portion of land made up of, you guessed it, hills! They were created thousands of years ago as glaciers from the north and pushed and mashed the land apart.
A small lake, called Tody Lake with the rear facing a huge amount of State Land that consists of mostly deep woods lies in the middle of Hadley Hills and this is where the actual event took place.
In May 1975, 2 boys (who's name's I'll leave out, but you can find if researched) were going fishing on Tody Lake. They left in mid-afternoon, but did not come home later that evening. They were missing for days, even with everybody searching nearby.
The local police ended up using dogs to search for the boys and discovered their bodies mutilated and hanging from a tree in the woods near the shore of the lake. A man from Flint (about 30 minutes from Hadley) ended up confessing his murder of the boys to police.
I was told of this story to a few friends while in high school and we decided to go "ghost hunting" in the area described above.
The night started out on two-tracker roads that led up to Tody Lake from the woods of State Land behind it. These roads are very narrow and weave in and out and around deep gorges and bogs.
We took my friends old car and trekked down the dark roads until we decided to stop a ways away from Tody Lake, where supposedly, the tree was where the boys were found hanged. We shut the car off and had a video camera running in hopes of seeing something interesting. We stood on top of the car waving the camera around for about 10 minutes with nothing happening.
Then, in the direction of the Lake above the road, we all saw two faint lights, horizontal, slowly coming our direction from quite a distance away. We all got back into the car immediately, but kept the camera focused on the lights with the windows rolled down for clarity.
Now remember, this portion of terrain was very hilly, so if it was a car driving along the two-track road, it would have had to go up and down the hills, so we would have seen the lights, and as the car drove down the road, the lights would have disappeared with it. These lights did not disappear, but kept coming towards us until after about 2 minutes, they totally disappeared. And this was all caught on the tape, which we later watched that night and nearly wet our drawers watching!
The second part of the evening was also eventful. There is a bridge that crosses over a small river that feeds Tody Lake on the North end, and in the nearby woods lies an abandoned nature center used prior by the DNR.
We stopped the car on the bridge to investigate the abandoned building in the woods. There wasn't much in the building, some papers and a barrel.
We got back to the car, and we heard slapping sounds that sounded like footsteps about 60 feet from the car before the car was turned on. We stopped and listened for a few seconds more (remember the windows are down from before). Nothing.
Our driver said enough was enough and put the keys into the ignition and just as he turned the key we heard the same sounds only louder, sounding as if they were running and right outside the car.
We took off in a hurry and never looked back! My friend and I went to the bridge once more later that year, but heard nothing.
I am not a believer in ghosts, but I will say that that was one eventful night, and full of weird occurrences!
