Michigan’s Otherside is a project started by The Great Lakes Paranormal Research Organization. If you have stories to share, would like to help contribute in some way or just want to send us gift baskets and praise, we can be contacted by dancing at midnight in a circle of Godiva chocolates while chanting "Michigan’s Otherside”. After a short period of meditation, one of us should appear to you in a vision. If that’s too complicated, here are some quicker ways of contacting The Otherside.
Tom Maat (a.k.a. Michigan Ghost Hunter)
American Ghost Society Statewide Representative & Co-Founder of Michigan's Otherside
Tom started a career as a paramedic in 1975-1980, dealing with death on a first hand basis. The next 22 years were spent as a project manager, traveling to all 48 contiguous states, giving him the opportunity to observe diverse differences in cultures and belief systems. He has been involved with the hotel industry for the past 4 years, and is currently working with a hotel in downtown Grand Rapids,MI. He has been interested and studying the paranormal for over 35 years.
As a young child, he could remember having feelings of not being alone whenever he was in a room by himself. During the summer of 1971, he had an experience while meditating, which started him on the path of Shamanic studies and practices, which resulted in being certified as an Ama Deus Shamanic Healer in 2004. Throughout the years, he has been searching for information about the paranormal through personal investigations, books, lectures and numerous paranormal organizations. In 2003 he was instrumental in the creation of the Great Lakes Paranormal Research Organization based in Michigan.
He has appeared in newspaper articles, and has participated in several radio programs dealing with the paranormal and became a statewide representative for the American Ghost Society in June of 2007.

Amberrose Hammond – Co-Founder of Michigan's Otherside & Web Mistress
Amberrose Hammond has been interested in the paranormal for a few lifetimes now. Starting from a little kid, she read and watched anything that had to do with ghosts and the paranormal. One night in October of 2000, she was sitting at work bored and thinking to herself how even more boring Michigan is. Seeing it was October, she hopped on the computer and did a search on Michigan and haunted places, not really expecting to find much. Low and behold, she found tons of haunted places and stories and also discovered the wonderful world of ghost hunting. Michigan wasn’t boring after all.
Since then she has worked with a number of ghost hunting teams around the state, continued to learn any and everything about the paranormal world and helped form The Great Lakes Paranormal Research Organization in 2003 and is launching a new project called “ Michigan’s Otherside” in 2007. UFO’s are the only thing that scares her. Bring on possession, apparitions and demons, but keep the little green men on their own planet. Her real passion is researching and learning about the history behind legends and hauntings and Amberrose is also an avid cemetery enthusiast.

Nikki Ashendorf
When Nikki was a little girl, she would see people walking around in her room at night, only what she didn’t realize was that these people weren’t of this world anymore. She remembers them sitting on her bed, stroking her hair, pulling on the covers and even playing with her feet. Realizing it wasn’t her parents because she remembered the sounds of their snoring in the next room, she remembered being scared and didn’t understand what was going on.
Years later, Nikki started to understand that she could communicate with the otherside. She describes seeing ghosts or spirits in her head like a movie playing very fast, among just feeling them and also picking up on smells that might have been associated with them when they were alive. She admits, “Sometimes all of my gifts work and sometimes only one or two might work but I feel like I have been very rewarded with this. I have been able to help people contact their loved ones by acting as an “interpreter” between them and it’s extremely fulfilling.”
